how to crochet Free Important Guide

I checked many crochet books out of my library to review and this was the only one I decided to purchase for my use. I am mostly a self-taught crocheter who has been crocheting on and off for years. This book is wonderful at teaching all those basic principals and details that I never learned on my own. I especially liked the chapters on color work, Tunisian crochet and filet. The projects are wonderfully playful, varied and appealing. I think the instructions and illustrations could not be more clear.

Some of the criticisms of this book are unfounded. The stitches are presented throughout the book and not in one place because they are presented as they relate to a technique in a chapter — perfectly logical. Other criticisms about where to begin the next row of stitches after chaining and turning are invalid because the insertion point reflects the need to consider what the next row of stitches is to be.

If you want to take your skills up a notch or didn’t even know there was another notch, this is the book to do it.

This book has some crochet information you won’t find any where else. It is a great book for intermediate and experienced crocheters, but there are tons of better ones for beginning crocheters. The projects and photographs are enticing but don’t buy it unless you already understand all the crochet terms, stitches and symbols.

This book is filled with very good instructions and classic projects. It is an inexpensive source of learning and inspiration.

I disagree with the reviewers who say this isn’t good for beginners. It has very clear instructions. It isn’t exhaustive but it is good to teach you how to read patterns and do buttons, braids, tunisian, broomstick lace, flowers, filet, etc. Teaches the puff stitch and the cluster stitch nicely! Lots of various stitches and some good patterns. Tells you the weight of yarn used in the pattern so you can easily substitute from your stash. Patterns: large shopping bag, padded coat hangers, book covers, rug, pillow cover, mittens (child & adult), camisole, child & adult Aran sweater, blanket, a round & a square pillow, throw, small & large bags, hairband, slippers, shade/window edging and a stole.

I borrowed this book from the library and found plenty of interesting items. I chose about 8 patterns and/or stitches to study and jot down. The charts for the stitch patterns seemed fine, but the written instructions contained an astonishing number of errors, and I found simple typos in several spots as well. There must have been no proofreading at all. If the small portions of the book I looked at had so many errors, I wonder about the rest of it. I would still recommend the book for an experienced crocheter, and for a beginner only if he/she had a mentor on standby. If you prefer written instructions to charts, you may get frustrated.
