A true survival guide for cooks who want to serve a turkey meal that will be enjoyable and remembered fondly forever. Jeanie James shares delectable family recipes (including my long-lost refrigerator rolls recipe), shortcuts (love the Jazz tips for jazzing up store-bought dishes, improvising a do-it-yourself salad spinner, faking roasted garlic, etc.) and unusual approaches to traditional dishes (slow cooker candied sweet potatoes is one). Shopping lists, food facts, safety tips, easy-to-follow instructions and great professional design punctuated with delightful turkey cartoon characters make this a real treat both to read and use. And what a wonderful gift this book is for both new cooks (like my just-married niece) and us old gals, too. I love the Turkey! book.

I was pleasantly surprised by this delightful and humorous book. I was expecting another book of recipes. But no, this book is much more. It is a great investment for both the novice and the experienced cook. It gets the beginner off on the right path leading to glorious success. At the same time, it is a wonderful “let me share why I am always so well prepared” from one experienced cook to another.

Family or other large get-togethers are times when you want to share good food and good times. This book delivers on several fundamentals, most importantly, time-saving preparations and wonderful, mouth watering recipes that are sensible to prepare.

If you have been doing this turkey thing for awhile and want to finally have things under control this is the book for you. On the other hand if you are a raw recruit, this book will take away the fear with its easy and intelligent guide (just like having a personal trainer with you through the whole process). You will relish in the high praise from even experienced relatives and friends.

Are you a good cook, are people always asking you, “how do you do it?” Do you want to write out some guides for your younger family members or friends? If you are an expert and wonderful cook, while filling your heart with joy this book will help you to explain to your loved ones the “how tos” of what you have been doing all these years. Just give them a copy and you can rest assured that they will follow in your footsteps and sanely carry on the “turkey dinner” tradition. Afterall, it is your turn to eat at their house!
